Resolutions: Solutions to Business Problems
Resolution provides capable solutions covering all aspects of Plant Operations
and Supply Chain Management, from Batch
Tracking to Inventory Management to
Movement Management to Production
Management to Yield Accounting
and more (see list below). These solutions can be used as-is, or can be
used as a starting point for customization of a client implementation. Resolution's application solutions,
can be easily and rapidly configured to match the client's business requirements rather
than the client having to adapt to a vendor's version of their process.
Note:
All solution capabilities can now be provided in Resolution's new RISnet
Web Environment. The Windows client server version is still available
but will eventually be desupported.
The comprehensive library of business
solutions includes the following:
... And many more.
Batch Tracking, Batch or Lot Tracking
is the process of executing schedules of Batch Operations to produce Products.
Recipes control the components that go in to a batch. The Resolution component
of a Batch Production solution generally involves an interface to an ERP
system. The ERP system will be tracking purchases, sales, shipments and
inventories in order to manage costs and materials. It will also be looking
at sales demands, sales forecasts, raw material inventory levels and product
inventory levels in order to create demands for production. These demands
for production are the starting point for Resolution.
Production demands are provided in terms of
requirements for quantities of specific commodities (SKUs).
The commodity specification will include the product pack
information.Production
scheduling involves taking production demands from the ERP system and
turning them in to specific jobs for execution on specific pieces of
equipment. Most often the
production scheduling will involve accumulation of orders in order to make
production runs. Production
runs are expressed in terms of multiple executions of recipe operations.
Equipment loads in the production areas need to be balanced with
loads in the packaging area.
Resolution provides complete support for tracking of
batches of material through a continuous or discrete production
environment. Batch tracking
makes use of the inherent Resolution capability to:
- Track
Movements of material from one location in a facility to another
location
- Maintain
a history of what material is in any location at any time
- Store
/ access Laboratory data
- Store
/ access Real-time data
- Track
Events
- Maintain
Plans / Schedules

Cost
Management. The cost management solution provides a way,
using the Resolution system toolkit, to create an application that:
- Captures financial transactions and the attributes of the transaction.
- Allocates transactions against cost center/expense code combinations.
- Allocates cost code/expense code combinations to individual cost centers and
expense codes.
- Groups expense codes and cost centers into summary groups, which in turn can
be grouped.
- Allows budgets to be assigned to cost center/expense code combinations, and
to track the changes in the budget over time.
- Accumulates the individual transactions over any period of time and roll-up by
cost center and/or expense code.
- Reports the deviation over time between budget and actual expenses by cost
center, expense code, or group.
- Maintain running summaries of costs by day by cost center/expense code
combination.
Data Reconciliation and Mass Balancing.
RECONCILER is Resolution's reconciliation engine. It is
accurate, fast, robust, and handles complex reconciliation problems involving
measurement equations, linear and non-linear balance equations and non-linear
constraints. Also, Reconciler is TOTALLY DATABASE DRIVEN.
The combination of Reconciler with
the comprehensive plant model maintained in the Production
Management solution facilitates effective control of plant and unit
mass balances.

Document Management, Indexing
and Retrieval: The REGISTRY master catalog already provides the
catalog of ‘key-words’ against which to index any document. Any document
about a piece of equipment, a plan, or a material, can be found using
this solution. Additionally this solution knows of the location of that
document and will retrieve it whether it is contained in an external EDMS
system or stored directly within REPOSITORY. This solution is an effective
Plant Document Management System.

Equipment
Specification Data Management and Reporting: A central clearing
house for all equipment specifications data. The data, which can be interactively
entered, updated, and reviewed, is stored in such a form that it is suitable
for engineering analysis such as automatic comparison of design values
versus measurement actual values for precisely the same characteristic.

Key Performance
Indicator Management and Review, a solution for the creation of
key performance indicators (KPI’s), management of the underlying calculations,
review of the KPI values using a ‘drill-down’ mechanism to identify ‘bad
actors’, and comprehensive reporting of the KPI’s actual, target, et cetera
values.

Movement Management,
Accurate capture of material movement information is pivotal for all plant reporting: unit yield analysis; reconciliation; yield analysis; schedule versus actual; etc. The Movement Management solution within Resolution provides comprehensive management of all material movements within a plant.

Offsites Data Management
and Reporting is built within the REPOSITORY database. This solution
provides for comprehensive tank farm management, including reviewing and
changing tank compositions, consolidated inventory reporting by area,
and stock category, movement data entry, movement reporting, and inventory/material
movement balancing. The majority of this solution is performed within
the database, leaving only the reporting and data entry for the client-side
application.
Operator Logbook solution provides
a means for the control room operator to capture notes about the performance
of the unit’s equipment, and the operation against plan. These logbook
notes, which can be in the form of documents, are all stored in the database
keyed against the plan or unit so that they can be easily retrieved.
Production
Management. Production Management is the application effort
that deals with the initial site specific information needed to implement
a material production management application. Frequently Yield and Unit reporting tasks are largely unrelated:
unit reports are created directly from real-time database meter readings
without reference to the actual charge and production movements;
conversely yield reports rely heavily on tank gauges for charges and
productions. Unit reports are then used as the basis for technological
audits, simulation runs, LP vector generation, etc., despite the fact that
there might be a discrepancy between the yield reports and them.
Additionally the yield reports provide useful information regarding the
actual feed stock and product analysis.

Production Planning, Resolution
can manage movements internal to a facility, but also movements to and
from suppliers and distributors. The following sections describe a integrated
approach making use of the Resolution database to manage the planning,
scheduling and operation of a supply chain.
It is important to recognize the difference between
the LONG TERM PLANNING model, the SCHEDULING model and the OPERATIONAL
model of a supply chain. These
models use a consistent basis but have a very different emphasis because
of the periods they are focused on. Long
term planning is looking at multiple months, scheduling multiple days and
operational is looking at what has actually occurred.

Production Scheduling solution
is part of Resolution's integrated Planning and Scheduling capability.
It includes entry of the unit operating targets, both operating characteristics
and material movements, review of the plan or target, and the adoption
of this target as settings for the control systems.

Project
Management The project tracking solution provides a way,
using the Resolution system toolkit, to create an application that:
- Tracks the status reports of a project and its associated tasks,
- Assigns personnel to tasks and project groups,
- Allows project issues to be raised and their resolution history tracked,
- Allows reports to be created, associated with the project, and stored in the
database.
Quality
Assurance, a solution that provides laboratory sample
entry, scheduling, results capture, distribution of laboratory results
directly to the real-time data historian or DCS, and the generation of
certificates of quality.

Shipping Management,
Resolution can manage movements internal to a facility, but
also movements to and from suppliers and distributors. The Shipping Model
is a direct extension of Resolution’s Movement tracking in a facility. The additional concept is a transfer movement. This is part of the Nominations section of the database. A transfer movement can be part of a Cargo that can be transported
by a Vessel. A Vessel can be such things as a ship, truck, or pipeline.

Solomon Indicator Management,
Solomon’s Fuels Refinery Performance Analysis is an
industry-wide study of the comparative performance of the participating
refineries in the areas of Profitability, Operations, Maintenance,
Manpower and Safety. This study is done every two years and the
participants are required to submit two years of data for the study. At
the end of the study, which is about six months from the end of the study
period, Solomon publishes the performance results of each participant and
compares them with the best in class by region and country and with
respect to previous performance analyses. This provides refinery
management an insight into their strengths and weaknesses so that they
focus on overcoming their deficiencies. RESOLUTION Solutions provides a
convenient tool to track Solomon performance indices on an ongoing basis
without the comparative performance analysis done by Solomon.
