Screens and reports allow for the creation of KPI's, creation of the underlying calculations, reviewing the KPI values, via a 'drill-down, and reporting the KPI's multiple values (e.g. actual, target, reconciled) in charts or tables.
KPI allows users to see the 'wood for the trees'. Instead of being swamped by vast quantities of information, KPI distills the information down into a few indicators that are easy to watch. As soon as one indicator is out of alignment, the drill down capability allows focus to be brought upon the problem area. Since KPI is built upon the RESOLUTION database, KPI's have access to all plant data: production, safety, engineering, operational, economic, etc., whether stored locally in the Resolution database or in other interfaced systems. Custom RISnet forms provide a flexible environment for management and analysis of Key Performance Indicators. Users can maintain the KPIS, monitor performance, generate charts or create ad-hoc KPI reports.

A KPI is a key plant performance indicator that is linked to a business goal. In general, every KPI will have a target value that may change over time. The actual value of the KPI is compared to the target value to determine how much progress has been made towards achieving the business goal. KPIs can also have associated knowledge attributes that assist operations when a KPI goes out of conformance. The following is an automatically generated form that allows complete definition of a KPI from a single screen for a specific client configuration.
KPI data can be entered manually, extracted directly from the attached real-time databases, or the result of complex calculations implemented using the Recalculator or ReEvaluator modules. Get instant and continuous access to comparison information of plant performance indicators based on data from a variety of sources. Resolution has implemented complete benchmarking systems within the KPI solution to allow sites to continually evaluate their performance against competitive standards. See the Solomon Indicators solution for refining as as an example of what is possible.
As with all RISnet solutions, custom work flows are provided to manage the creation and maintenance of KPIs.
There are several KPI Explorers. This one shows the KPI drill-down hierarchy along with any open nonconformance events that need action. The icons on the events and KPIs themselves can be customized to represent various states of conformance or escalation. As with all Resolution displays the KPIS and Events can be clicked on to get their respective context sensitive Resolver menus.
Automatic detection of deviations in KPIs can result in
The following screen can be activated for a kpi to show all outstanding events along with comments by supervisor and operations and a chart of the offending time period.
KPI data can be viewed by any tool capable of looking at an Oracle database, e.g. via Microsoft Excel, Business Objects, Crystal Reports etc. In addition Resolution has developed many reports using XML/XSLT for display directly in a web browser. These reports have the advantage that they are very fast and elements within the report can be resolved upon to get more information. The KPI Action Report can be activated at any point in the KPI hierarchy to show all KPIs in that branch that have outstanding events or are currently out of range. Appropriate corrective actions can also be displayed at the same time.
The KPI Escalation Detail Report can also be activated at any point in the KPI hierarchy to show all KPIs in that branch that have nonconformance events that have not been handled within an appropriate amount of time. This report works in conjunction with an escalation nonconformance detector that will send escalation e-mail messages to alert management of unhandled events.
The KPI History Report is an example of a report showing current and historical performance of a KPI or group of KPIS.
The following report was created in Business Objects to display the refinery gross margin. Note: The report only displays the results. All of the calculations for the GRM are implemented in the database so they are immediately available to all reporting tools or queries.
