Plant Document Management, Indexing and RetrievalThe Document Management solution in Resolution provides the ability to manage and index enterprise related documents and drawings with or without an electronic document management system (EDMS). The core of this solution is the Repository database that already contains the complete catalog of 'key-word' Resources against which to index any document. A document can be linked to a piece of equipment, a plan, a material commodity, a person, an event, a batch, a lab sample, another document ... any resource in the database can be used. Resolution can also track the location(s) of a document and can retrieve it to display it to a user whether it is contained in an external EDMS system, a network file system, or stored directly within the Repository database itself.

Users browse the database to find a resource and then retrieve a list of associated documentation. If available on-line the document can be retrieved and displayed at the user station using a low-cost image viewer. In the case of DWG or DXF files, Resolution's REVIEWER provides the ability to place hot-links inside the drawing file. 'Right-clicking' on one of these links invokes a menu specific to the linked item. Note, this does not invalidate the file format. The file can still be edited by the CAD system (AutoCAD etc.) without losing these links. Within an EDMS, documents will be continually added, updated, and possibly deleted. Resolution's document index is kept synchronized with the EDMS by Relayer messages. When ever a predefined 'business event' (such as a New document or Update document) occurs in the EDMS, a message is sent from the EDMS to Resolution to record this event. The message is an XML formatted message that is processed by the appropriate 'agent' in Resolution. This agent will either create a new document in Resolution or update an existing document which already exists in Resolution. This process can be either an automatic process where by all the necessary steps to create or update or delete a document are done without any human intervention. Or it can be set up to require manual intervention. |
